Why do some people seem to place such a huge emphasis on alexa. Honestly who really cares what alexa thinks of any given site? It is not going to help you rank better in the search engines. THe only reason I can see alexa as being useful is if you wanted to sell your site. Even then the info from analytics would be more beneficial.

Alexa has always said that rankings above 100,000 are meaningless.

My site went from appx 68,000 to appx 49,000. As those figures are both under 100,000, the change probably reflects the reality of their algorithm - and it makes sense.

In the past Alexa was heavily skewed toward bloggers and blogging sites. Now apparently it is not..

Ok, my site was at ranking 8,000 aprox, after the alexa ranking change now it is 70,000+.

If the current rankings are better and we see my site example we can conclude that my old site ranking were completly useless since there was a 10x arror.

If we were trusting this information with this enormous error, what makes us trust the company now?

The only thing they have achieve with the new ranking is make evident the enourmours error margin they have (as you can see in my site example).

So if they were so wrong before how can we trust them now?

My web site: Sacramento Wedding DJs, showed a HUGE increase in its Alexa ranking (a jump of nearly 1,000,000), when the score went from 1,890,000 to 985,000....there are not many Toolbar users visiting my site, mostly non-geeks (LOL). New Alexa algorithm is a reflection of many other factors besides Toolbar data, and it will be interesting to find out WHAT they are using, to further optimize rankings & site traffic.

there is a general consensus amongst the experts, that alexa is flawed, specifically when it comes to blogs.

i would stick with technorati, which until now, has proven to be a more accurate reflection of the general blogosphere. specifically by authority.
