Microsoft New Search Engine BING Reviews - Bing VS Google (Decision Engine VS Search Engine) War is On!
Posted on 6/02/2009 by Rani Dababneh
Microsoft Latest Trials to Attack Google [Bing.com] is now lunched (and will be deployed World Wide by June-03-2009), this New Search Engine by Microsoft is developed to replace their previous "Live Search Engine" which is now "Dead" after it failed to compete Google Search Engine or at least to stay aLive.
Microsoft is trying to change the game rules by calling Bing a "Decision Engine" which is supposed to offer insights to users, helping them take decisions, not necessarily by listing most popular and relevant items as usually done by "Search Engines" as claimed by Microsoft. [so Bing would probably answer "What should I wear tonight?" LOL]
Microsoft targeted around 100 Million Dollars to their Bing Campaign which is almost a quarter of Microsoft's entire 2008 Advertising Budget, while they don't directly attack Google, it is a bit indirectly intended by setting spots on how Bing is not like any traditional or usual Search Engine that is not so efficient nor usable to customers but it is a Decision Engine!
"We are introducing a new level of organization to search results, and our differentiators will be the best results for query" Microsoft Senior vice-president said. As Microsoft officials called it, code-named Kumo, a "decision engine designed to help people search the Web more intelligently and to simplify everyday tasks such as getting directions. The tool also makes it easier for users to organize search results according to their preferences" they said. while an analyst at IDC said "Microsoft has really trailed miserably the Google success in the search space, They're taking on changing people's expectations about what using search should be. The Bing user interface alone is enough to make a lot of people take notice".

While users are trying to explore all Ms Bing Features, webmasters on the other hand are also trying to figure out how to do Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for Bing, or should we call it now "Decision Engine Optimization"!
Though I guess it is so early to decide if Bing would beat Google, [I recommend you to read: There's no beating Google but Bing may still bring in the bling] I think it would be nearly impossible to win a war over Google despite all features provided as below.

Microsoft Bing Features As New Approach to Internet Search
Based on the customer insight that 66 percent of people are using Internet search more frequently to make complex decisions, Microsoft identified three design goals to guide the development of Bing: deliver great results; deliver a more organized experience; and simplify tasks and provide insight, leading to faster, more confident decisions. The new service, built to go beyond today’s search experience, includes deep innovation on core search areas including entity extraction and expansion, query intent recognition and document summarization technology as well as a new user experience model that dynamically adapts to the type of query to provide relevant and intuitive decision-making tools.
• Great search results. Relevant search results are still a top priority for people, yet Microsoft studies show that only one in four search queries deliver a satisfactory result. Bing helps identify relevant search results through features such as Best Match, where the best answer is surfaced and called out; Deep Links, allowing more insight into what resources a particular site has to offer; and Quick Preview, a hover-over window that expands over a search result caption to provide a better sense of the related site’s relevancy. Bing also includes one-click access to information through Instant Answers, designed to provide the sought-after information within the body of the search results page, minimizing the need for additional clicks.
• Organized search experience. More and more customers are regularly spending time with search engines, engaging in complex, multi-query and multi-session searches. Respondents also said an organized search experience would be twice as useful in helping find information and accomplishing tasks faster. Bing includes a number of features that organize search results, including Explore Pane, a dynamically relevant set of navigation and search tools on the left side of the page; Web Groups, which groups results in intuitive ways both on the Explore Pane and in the actual results; and Related Searches and Quick Tabs, which is essentially a table of contents for different categories of search results. Collectively, these and other features in Bing help people navigate their search results, cut through the clutter of search overload and get right down to making important decisions.
• Simplify tasks and provide insight. Microsoft’s research identified shopping, travel, local business and information, and health-related research as areas in which people wanted more assistance in making key decisions. The current state of Internet search isn’t optimized for these tasks, but the Bing Decision Engine is optimized for these key customer scenarios. For example, while a consumer is using Bing to shop online, the Sentiment Extraction feature scours the Internet for user opinions and expert reviews to help leverage the community of customers as well as product experts in trying to make a buying decision. In Bing Travel, the Rate Key compares the location, price and amenities of multiple hotels and provides a color-coded key of the best values, and the Price Predictor actually helps consumers decide when to buy an airline ticket in order to get the lowest prices.
Microsoft Bing is more likely to appear for queries related to:
* Automobiles (car models, car manufacturers)
* Travel & Local (countries, cities, states, points of interest like stadiums and parks)
* People (celebrities, athletes, musicians, bands, politicians)
* Sports (NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB teams)
* Health (cancer, diet, over-the-counter and prescription drugs, symptoms, genetic and conditional disease, injury trauma)
* Entertainment (popular television shows, movies)
* Retail (certain electronics such as cameras, cell phones and optics products)
* Events (Oscars, Fourth of July, NASCAR, etc.)
Microsoft Bing Team Letter:
We took a new approach to go beyond search to build what we call a decision engine. With a powerful set of intuitive tools on top of a world class search service, Bing will help you make smarter, faster decisions. We included features that deliver the best results, presented in a more organized way to simplify key tasks and help you make important decisions faster.
And features like cashback, where we actually give you money back on great products, and Price Predictor, which actually tells you when to buy an airline ticket in order to help get you the best price – help you make smarter decisions, and put money back in your pocket.
We sincerely hope that the next time you need to make an important decision, you’ll Bing and decide.

So first MSN became Live, but now Bing is live, i man Live is Bing, I mean MSN changed to Bing, which is now live...
they did do something to their algorithm.
but mostly on the interface.
i got to say its refreshing, however some features still the same, the video and picture etc. the results are almost still as muddy as live. this would only fool the ordinaries (which is the majorities) = smart move.
At first glance during the marketing campaign, it seemed like Bing would really take off. But after using it for the first time this morning, I'm very unimpressed. It's no different from several other portals I've used. The interface is actually very limited. I'm Internet clostraphobic while using it. Yahoo is still the best News and information portal on the Internet today. Google is the best search but lacks in the display of news and information. Bing is NOT that great.
I like it so there. I know what I want most of the time & rarely need help from Google or others. Bing's instant video playback is a big plus. Also I'm sick of Google. My life is becoming simply, just click and get what I want etc.
I just tried out Bing..must say the feature of giving a preview of a search result(unlike google) is very smart..definitely a good alternative..
My gosh is it slow. Can't Microsoft make it any slower. Then it would make it easier for us to decide that bing is all bung.
Bing crashed my computer. Within 5 minutes of using it I had to restart because everything was frozen. I think I will name this situation the "Bing Bomb".
Probably too early to tell if Micro$oft's Bing will take a chunk out of Google. However considering Micro$oft's track record, I don't think Google has much to be alarmed about...
I dig it, It is refreshing to be looking at something other that a blank white screen for a change. I also like the daily pics. I actually have both Bing and Google as my home page. because I like both and I have a gmail account which I have no problems with it. But I think Microsoft did a good job with Bing but the Net is big enough for 2 great search engines.
Would be nice to see them add a deep linking "keyword" interface like frapple. If you know the keyword, all results are bypassed and the page simply opens.
Bing uses google as its search engine. all it does is google for you....I'm sorry but I will go back to using google, because I dont need a digital monkey to do it for me.
wow...you people need to chill out for a sec. Why don't you actually give Bing a try by making it your search page for about a month, then try to see if there is a difference. Then you can actually give it a well reasoned review.
I've been using Bing for 2 weeks now, and I like it. It needs some tweaks with the image search, but other than that, I have no complaints about it...
Compared to Google, I prefer Bing's interface and I love how you can learn something new by checking out the homepage on a day to day basis.
BING KICKS ASS! I used bing travel to track a flight from MSP to Vegas for business. It kept track of it for about a week and notified me this morning that the price had dropped about $50, and it recommended me to buy. Ok, I figured, I had been waiting awhile and I should probably just take Bing's advice. Especially when most website now have a price drop garauntee, so I went to Bing and did a search... looks like it dropped $100! WOOPIE! Needless to say, I booked. VEGAS HERE I COME!
Just a typical "repackaging" tactic, used a lot in by P&G and the likes.... "improved formula", "whiter than white", you create a bit of noise and change the packaging and it boost sales... temporarily that is. the search engine is at best a "me too" of google. Nothing to worry the giant of Mountain View.
Bing is awesome, they are the search engine that has been the nicest to our site most likely due to the google filter.
Hi, I like Bing, I seem to be getting quite alot of visitors via this search engine.
Just wish I could figure out how to list on the maps section??????
Thanks
I like Bing and think it works pretty good, but I don't think it will effect Google at all
Yup i also like bing. The search results are more relevant than the live or msn search. And we can notice minor changes in results page. But i think it's very hard to beat google!
Bing is great if you don't like to choose your information source. It seems to lock in on popular websites when doing searches. Definitely frustrating when I want to read an article as opposed to watch a video that apparently the majority of users prefer (at least according to Bing). Also not very handy when doing research and you want a broad information pool to choose from. Bing there, done that. Google all the way!
Bing is politically bias. I won't say which way. Just do the same thing I did. Use the same key words on political topics with both google and bing over multiple searches and you will find bing leaves important pertinent pages out it does not agree with.
Slow, innacurate, highly biased (MS pages are top most of the time) and sooo many garbage results.
Also, #13 sounds like a M$ employee.
