Israeli team faces protests in Turkey
[Via CNN] ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -An Israeli basketball team fled to the locker room Tuesday as hundreds of fist-pumping, chanting Turkish fans protested the violence in Gaza.
The European Cup game between Bnei Hasharon and Turk Telekom was postponed because the Israeli team did not return to the court. There was no word on when or where the game would be played.
The fans chanted "God is Great'' and "Killer Israel.'' At least one fan threw his shoe at Israeli players but police used riot shields to protect them as they left the court. The Turkish players also headed to the locker room.
A pro-Islamic group earlier set an Israeli flag on fire outside the arena.
Turkey has harshly criticized Israel over the ground offensive in Gaza and has urged an immediate cease-fire in the Palestinian territory. It has also called on the United Nations to take steps to end the violence.
Israel says it acted to stop rocket attacks from Islamic Hamas militants.

[Via Alarabiya] أنقرة- رويترزأوقف مشجعو كرة سلة أتراك يرددون هتافات "إسرائيل .. قتلة" بدء مباراة أمام فريق إسرائيلي بعد أن قذفوا أشياء على الملعب احتجاجا على الهجوم الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة، وفقا لما ذكرت تقارير إخباري الأربعاء 7-1-2009.
وقال تلفزيون سكاي ترك إن الأشياء التي قذفتها جماهير تقدر بالمئات أصابت بعض اللاعبين.
وهرب لاعبو فريقي تليكوم أنقرة التركي وبني هشارون الإسرائيلي أمس الثلاثاء من المقذوفات باللجوء إلى غرف تغيير الملابس بينما جاهدت الشرطة لابقاء المحتجين بعيدا عن الملعب.
وقال مئير تابيرو كابتن فريق بني هشارون إن اللاعبين كانوا خائفين للغاية. وقال تابيرو للقناة الخامسة بالتلفزيون الإسرائيلي "ألقوا احذية وقداحات سجائر وزجاجات مياه. بقينا في غرفة تغيير الملابس تحت حماية الشرطة".
وغضب الاسرائيليون عندما احتسبت المباراة فوزا فنيا لفريق تليكوم أنقرة لأن بني هشارون رفضوا بدء المباراة بعد مرور ساعة ونصف بعد أن قالت الشرطة إنها اخلت الساحة.
وقال ايلداد اكونيس اكونيس رئيس مجلس ادارة بني هشارون ان القرار كان مخزيا، وقال اكونيس "بعد المرور بمثل هذه المحنة لم يكن هناك ببساطة اي معنى للعب.. اللاعبون كانوا مهتمين بسلامتهم فقط. وتلقينا تعليمات من موظفي السفارة الاسرائيلية والذين كانوا يراقبون الوضع بعدم اللعب".
وتتمتع تركيا ذات الاغلبية المسلمة بعلاقات طيبة مع إسرائيل ولكن العنف في غزة أثار احتجاجات عامة في الشوارع وانتقادات حادة من الحكومة

Whatever reasons Israel has on bombing Gaza, innocent civilians are getting killed without understanding why. I condemn Israel for her offensive attacks. The world respects this country so she better respect other countries as well.

Every action has a reaction, and this is one of those things the Israeli civilains should expect. Israel is losing its propoganda war and the prove are all those protests spreading across the world. But I hope I can see more protests in the Arab world that are calling for Peace and coexisting and not the distruction of any country. People sometimes can be very ignorant, I saw photos of Saddam and Ibn Laden in protests in southern Jordan, are we that dumb?

honestly u are so racist , i have many friends from all origins and many from jordanian origins especially those christian jordanian (karadsheh 7amarneh halaseh 7jazeen and dababneh ...m3ashar ,7attar 3akroosh , also palestinian christians bosheh haddad khoury romanos re7ani sawaqed elias , nuqul , abu khader ...and many and others .. in fact i respect christians a lot ) anyway none of them is like u ,

Well I don't think that you really read all my posts (as the latest 2 posts were supporting Palestine for example)! and I don't think that you really know me, as u have mistakenly judged me!
you judged me that I hate Palestinians!! :| well I have no Idea where did this come from, but maybe it was because of the Arabic post about burning the Jordanian Flag!
well, if you really know me you wouldn't say so as most of my friends are from Palestinians origins, and most of them are really close to me and some could be even my best friends!
The misunderstanding here is that, I respect all people, as christian (as u have mentioned that) and as a normal human being, and the issue with people from Palestinians origin is that I respect all of them just as Jordanians and other nationalities, those who live in Palestine, and those who live in Jordan and Loving it (without denying their Palestinian origins), but one category of people that i dislike or distrust are those who live in Jordan (regardless their origins [Jordanians, Palestinians or any nationality]) since ever but hating it, denying all benefits Jordan is providing them, (needless to name them)!
I hope I made myself clear, and i might write that extensively in another post for people who misunderstood me!
and finally if u like you can contact me to discuss it frankly, as i don't like it to make anyone hates me!

Sportsmen need to be protected more. Sports and politics are completely unrelated and it's a shame they're the ones being targeted just so a bunch of violent protesters can get some media coverage.

It is so sad that this thing is happening. The war is affecting everyone, especially the innocent. Things like basketball should not be affected by war bought by some hardheaded political leaders, but the thing is, it cannot be avoided because in war nobody is innocent.
Looks like this trick with throwing shoes in Bush goes all over the world, while it funny with him (and he deserves this shoes) too bad other become so addicted to such things.
Its so sad. War has never been the answer to anything. I wish the fighting would just stop.
