Penalized by Google is worse than being Dumped by your Girlfriend! Banned by Google is the worst!

Posted on 9/27/2008 by Rani Dababneh

Let me start by explaining the term "Penalized by Google" in brief for those [non-webmasters] who are not familiar with it, and never heard of it!

Google Penalization is a fear for all webmasters (website owners), as google bans any site caught violating any of the Google Rules. sites banned by google may not appear at all or may sink down to the bottom in Google Search Engine Results Pages(SERPs)! Why is it so important to keep it legal and never get banned by Google? because simply Google is the main stable enduring source of websites traffic (visitors)!

Now what is in common between Google and Girlfriends?! well obviously its not just the [1] initial letter "G" [the big G's] LOL! [2] when a girlfriend likes her boyfriend more she would give him a higher priority and would marry him when he ranks number one in her life! so is google, if google likes a website for certain keyword, google would grant this site a higher rank in their search results and the site would be married to the huge traffic when ranked as number 1!!

[3] Girlfriends are so harsh and full of restrictions, if a boyfriend violates one rule he will be dumped and banned from her life, she might never talk to him again or she might stay as a fake friend! so is google, its full of complex restrictions and its harsh when a site violates one rule, google may ban you for good or may penalize you keeping you as fake results in the bottom of their search results pages!!

[4] Google would like to be visited regularly and would prefer a new look everyday (by changing their Google Logo according to all world occasions), so is your girlfriend, she would like to be visited and called regularly and she would love to do a new fancy look everyday!!

But why being Penalized by Google is worse than being Dumped by Girlfriend?? well, you might need couple of weeks, months, years or decades (according to how much you were in love) to forget your ex-girlfriend and start looking for a another one! but in Google's case, you will never find another Google!! not in the next million years!

How NOT to be Banned by Google?

According to Google Webmasters Guidelines:
Quality guidelines - basic principles
  1. Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as "cloaking."
  2. Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
  3. Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.
  4. Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

Quality guidelines - specific guidelines
  1. Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
  2. Don't use cloaking or sneaky redirects.
  3. Don't send automated queries to Google.
  4. Don't load pages with irrelevant keywords.
  5. Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
  6. Don't create pages with malicious behavior, such as phishing or installing viruses, trojans, or other badware.
  7. Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
  8. If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

How to know if your site is Penalized by Google?

If your site is facing a huge loss in Google Organic Traffic (noted by Google Analytics) or if you no longer rank high for certain keywords or all keywords that you used to rank higher for a long period, and if this case lasted for more than couple of days then your site is penalized by Google!

If your site doesn't appear at all, using the Site Operator (when you search for "Site:YourSiteURL" at google), then your site is banned.

What to do if your site is Banned by Google?

Clear any violation and submit your site for reconsideration explaining what happened and what did you do! you might wait for couple of weeks or months until things get back stable again, if Google decided to remove your site's penalty!

another thing, dont write paid posts with explicit disclosure or sell links with headings like "sponsored links "or "paid links". google can penalize u for buying/selling links if they can find it.

I had a strange situation with my page

Collaborative Writing

For a long time I was on the first page - Google SERP for this word.

However suddenly I was stack with #52 and for a long time whatever I did, it was #52. I was desparate. Only recently Google allowed me to shift toward the top ranking again. But I am still wandering what was the issue. How we can actually check with Google what is the cause of their penalties ?

So, how will I know what I did wrong to be penalized by Google? Is there anything I can do? My site has been penalized for some reason, and I can't think why. I didn't even do SEO! I don't know why they don't like my site. There is no way to get ahold of Google, there is no way to find out why a site was de-listed. Even if you submit a request for reconsideration, you'll never hear back from them one way or the other. If I have a website that is verified and included in my Google webmaster tools, why is there no way to find out what happened?

I just thought I would add that a couple months back I was ranked in the top 3 for my search words, and I changed some info on my meta tag. The next week I wasn't in the top 100, so I know it has a lot of effect if done incorrectly.

Is there anyway to check if an available domain is being blacklisted by Google?

I used to rank 3 for a good keyword, but for a month now, that entire page is missing from google's index. All other keywords seem ok except that. What could be the reason?

Wow nice article to read on. Definitely banned by google is worst thing that could ever happen to a website, but one thing if a site is banned will it be reincluded in few weeks or have to wait for months and months and i ve heard there is a chance that it might be not considered again.
